Diamondbacks salvage series in Pittsburgh

Jul 4, 2014 - 4:36 AM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - David Peralta went 3-for-5 with a career- high four RBI and two runs scored, and the Arizona Diamondbacks salvaged the final game of their three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 10-2 rout on Thursday.

Peralta's two-run homer in the sixth proved to be the difference before Arizona used a seven-run ninth inning to put the game away.

Brandon McCarthy (3-10) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win.

Paul Goldschmidt finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and has now reached base safely in 24 straight games.

Arizona snapped its three-game losing streak.

"Clean game, aggressive everywhere, no errors," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "It's good momentum going into Atlanta."

Vance Worley (2-1) took the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits with six strikeouts over seven innings of work.

"Bottom of the third no-hit, the volume of work overnight was still solid," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of Worley. "It's a very good outing."

Gregory Polanco and Ike Davis each drove in a run for Pittsburgh, which had won five of six coming in.

Worley was perfect through four and carried a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings, but the first hit he allowed was costly.

Didi Gregorius walked to start the sixth and advanced on McCarthy's sacrifice bunt. Ender Inciarte then sent a humpback liner into left that scored Gregorius and cut the 2-0 deficit in half.

Peralta stepped in and stroked a two-run homer to right that gave Arizona a 3-2 lead.

Then the ninth came and Arizona broke it open.

Aaron Hill and Martin Prado singled before pinch-hitter Cody Ross slapped a double to center that made it 4-2.

Gregorius then singled in a run and Peralta added a two-run single later in the frame to increase the cushion to 7-2.

Goldschmidt's triple off the base of the fence in right drove in a pair and, Miguel Montero added an RBI single to cap the scoring.

Earlier, Jordy Mercer legged out a double to begin the home third, advanced on a Worley groundout and scored when Polanco grounded out on a chopper to shortstop.

The Pirates pushed another run across in the fourth on three straight hits. Much like the previous inning, Neil Walker hustled out a double and moved over to third on Russell Martin's single to left. Davis then poked a single into right that scored Walker to increase the lead.
