Pearce and O's sweep Rangers
Jul 4, 2014 - 12:33 PM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Steve Pearce had a career-high four hits and drove in two runs, as Baltimore completed a four-game sweep of the Texas Rangers with a 5-2 victory Thursday night at Camden Yards.Nick Hundley doubled twice, knocked in a run and scored twice for the Orioles, who got six solid innings from Wei-Yin Chen (8-3). The left-hander scattered six hits and gave up two runs while fanning four.
Shin-Soo Choo belted a solo homer for the Rangers, who have lost five in a row overall and nine straight on the road for the first time since July 31 - Aug. 16, 2005. That also was a nine-game skid.
Scott Baker (0-2), making his third start of the year, surrendered seven hits and three runs in 4 2/3 innings. He was taking the place of Yu Darvish, who was moved back to Friday against the Mets after the start of Thursday's game was delayed nearly an hour due to rain.
Choo's homer to left-center provided the Rangers with a 2-1 lead in the fifth, but the Orioles went ahead in the bottom portion. Ryan Flaherty doubled to right and Hundley followed with a two-bagger off the wall in left. Two batters later, Pearce drove a ball to the gap in left-center, just out of the reach of Leonys Martin.
Adam Jones lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Chris Davis lined a base hit to center later in the frame to drive in Pearce, who singled and stole second.
"Their bats came alive over there," said Rangers manager Ron Washington.
Brian Matusz and Darren O'Day combined for two innings of hitless relief and Zach Britton pitched the ninth for his 12th save.
Pearce singled in Hundley in the third, but Carlos Pena tied it in the fourth when his groundout plated Adrian Beltre.
