Haren, De La Rosa put winning streaks on the line
Jul 5, 2014 - 1:56 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Dan Haren eyes his fourth straight winning decision on Saturday when the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their four-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.Haren was magnificent on Monday against Cleveland, as he gave up just one hit and struck out five over seven scoreless innings to run his record to 8-4, while lowering his ERA to 3.57.
"It's nice to bounce back after my worst start of the year," Haren said. "I've been on good staffs, but it's tough to hold my weight here. Every time out, the guys are dealing. I try to maintain the momentum and haven't done it until today."
Haren, who had given up four runs in 4 1/3 innings in his previous start, is 7-7 lifetime versus the Rockies with a 4.55 ERA in 16 starts.
Colordao, meanwhile, will turn to lefty Jorge De La Rosa, who has won his last two starts and is 8-6 on the year with a 4.86 ERA. De La Rosa beat the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, despite giving up four runs in six innings.
"He did a good job today," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. "He had to labor through a couple innings but did a nice job for us. We needed a lift today. He got us through six and put us in position."
De La Rosa has struggled in his career against the Dodgers, going a mere 3-10 with a 6.26 ERA in 19 games (15 starts).
Clayton Kershaw was brilliant once again in Friday's opener, as the NL's reigning Cy Young Award winner extended his scoreless innings streak to 36 in the Dodgers' 9-0 win.
Just two weeks after he tossed a no-hitter against the same team, Kershaw (10-2) conceded just two hits across eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts to win his seventh straight start.
"With Clayton it seems like it's like this all the time," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "It may not always be zeros but it's always pretty much going eight and pretty dominating for the most part."
The left-hander's scoreless stretch is the longest active streak in the majors and is third in franchise history behind Orel Hershiser (59) and Don Drysdale (58).
Scott Van Slyke and Yasiel Puig both homered while Andre Ethier tripled among his three hits for the Dodgers, who used a season-high 19 hits to win for the fifth time in seven tries.
Nolan Arenado and D.J. LeMahieu both hit for Colorado, which has lost five straight and nine of its last 10.
Rockies starter Jair Jurrjens (0-1) was tagged for eight runs on 12 hits across 4 2/3 frames in his season debut.
LA is 8-3 against Colorado this season.
