Indians, White Sox meet for rubber match in Cleveland

Jul 13, 2014 - 1:08 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - After splitting the first two of a three-game weekend set, the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians will meet up on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field for a rubber match before the All-Star Break.

The White Sox evened the series on Saturday with a 6-2 victory and were led by their outstanding rookie slugger.

Jose Abreu got the visitors on the board with a two-run shot in the fourth inning, giving him a major league-leading 29 home runs to go with 73 RBI in just 81 games.

"I am very proud of what I have accomplished so far in the first half," Abreu said through a translator. "I'm very happy to participate in the All-Star Game. It's definitely an honor."

Gordon Beckham belted a two-run double in the ninth, one of the White Sox's eight hits on the afternoon.

Scott Carroll (4-5) pitched five scoreless innings in the win, allowing just two hits while walking one.

Zach McAllister (3-5) was the hard-luck loser, yielding just six base runners in seven innings while giving up three earned runs.

Michael Brantley smashed his 15th homer for the Indians, and Jason Kipnis (1- for-3) drew a bases-loaded walk for the team's only other RBI.

John Danks will take the hill for the White Sox on Sunday attempting to improve upon his 8-6 record and 4.15 ERA.

Danks wasn't very sharp in his latest outing, yielding eight hits, four walks and three earned runs on July 8 at Boston, but it was good enough to earn the win, his fifth in his last seven starts.

The southpaw hasn't fared well away from home this season with a 5.77 ERA in nine starts.

For Cleveland, Trevor Bauer gets the call. The 23-year-old is 3-4 with a 4.23 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 66 innings.

Bauer had his longest outing of the season on July 8 versus the Yankees, earning the win after allowing just four hits, two walks and two earned runs over seven innings of work.

Opposing batters are hitting just .208 against Bauer in July.

The White Sox are 8-4 versus the Indians this season.
