Red Sox recall LHP Lester

Sep 2, 2007 - 5:42 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Red Sox on Sunday recalled lefthander Jon Lester from Class AA Portland.

Lester will start Sunday afternoon's game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

Lester is 2-0 with a 5.67 ERA in six starts with the Red Sox this season. He was optioned to Portland on August 23 and defeated Trenton in his lone start for the SeaDogs on August 27, allowing five hits and one run in six innings.

The lefthander opened the season on the disabled list while continuing his recovery from lymphoma that required off-season treatment. He went 4-5 with a 4.89 ERA in 14 starts at Triple-A Pawtucket before being recalled by Boston on July 23.

Lester is 9-2 with a 5.02 ERA in 21 career major league starts with Boston in 2006-07.
