Ozuna, Marlins top D-backs in 10th
Aug 15, 2014 - 4:55 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcell Ozuna provided the game-winning double during the 10th inning to lead the Miami Marlins over the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-4, in the opener of a four-game set.Garrett Jones worked a leadoff walk off Bradin Hagens (0-1), who was making his MLB debut, in the bottom of the 10th. Jeff Mathis followed with a single to right before Ozuna's RBI double to center decided the game.
"I just struggled with my command," Hagens said. "Kind of trying to hit the corners too much instead of attacking the zone."
Giancarlo Stanton finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and Adeiny Hechavarria tripled and drove in two runs for the Marlins, who have won five of their last seven games.
Mike Dunn (10-5) earned the win after tossing perfect ninth and 10th innings with three strikeouts. Dunn now leads the majors in wins by a reliever with 10 and set a franchise record for wins in a season by a reliever.
"To see him get a good at-bat and finish it off was huge," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said of Ozuna. "You just have to win. It doesn't matter how you do it."
Mark Trumbo went 2-for-4 with two RBI and David Peralta and Miguel Montero each brought in a run for Arizona, which has dropped three of its last four.
Brad Ziegler walked Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ozuna with two outs in the eighth. Hechavarria hit a grounder up the middle that deflected off the glove of a diving Cliff Pennington into center field for the game-tying RBI single.
Christian Yelich opened the ninth with an infield single off Hagens. Yelich moved to second on Donovan Solano's sacrifice bunt and Hagens intentionally walked Stanton, but Casey McGehee grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to send the game into extras.
Ender Inciarte walked to open the game, stole second on Pennington's strikeout, advanced to third after Peralta lined out and scored the game's first run on Trumbo's RBI single to left.
Arizona added two more runs in the third. Pennington worked a two-out walk and hustled home on Peralta's triple that Stanton misplayed in center field. Trumbo brought home Peralta with a grounder up the middle for a 3-0 lead, but Miami countered with two runs in the home half.
Brad Penny doubled with one out and moved to third on Yelich's groundout. Solano ripped an RBI double down the left-field line and Stanton brought him home with a single to center.
Yelich and Stanton both singled to place runners on the corners with two outs in the fifth, but McGehee grounded out to leave them stranded.
Miguel Montero's RBI double off the left-field wall during the sixth ended Penny's outing and gave the Diamondbacks a 4-2 lead. Penny gave up four runs on five hits and three walks over five-plus innings in the no-decision.
Miami got within one in the bottom of the sixth after Hechavarria tripled to center, scoring Jones, who drew a leadoff walk.
