Cleveland sends Kluber to hill in Chicago

Aug 27, 2014 - 2:33 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Kluber will try to bounce back from his first setback since late June on Wednesday night when the Cleveland Indians continue a three-game series against the skidding Chicago White Sox.

The right-handed Kluber took a six-decision win streak into an outing at Minnesota on Thursday, but lost a 4-1 decision. It was his first setback since June 30 and dropped the hurler to 13-7 with a 2.46 earned run average on the year.

Kluber had allowed four earned runs over his previous six starts before yielding three on six hits and four walks over seven frames versus the Twins. The 28-year-old did strike out eight, giving him 28 over his last three games.

Kluber is 3-1 with a 3.51 ERA in eight meetings (7 starts) versus the White Sox.

Getting the call for the White Sox will be Hector Noesi.

Noesi was aiming for a third straight winning decision last Wednesday, but instead suffered a 4-3 loss to Baltimore. The righty gave up all four runs over seven innings, serving up three homers to cancel out his eight strikeouts to zero walks.

Noesi, 27, is 7-9 with a 4.86 ERA this year and 0-1 in his career versus the Tribe with a 4.79 ERA in four games, all but one of those starts.

The Indians won a back-and-forth opener on Tuesday in 10 innings, with Zach Walters' two-run homer in the top of the extra frame giving his club an 8-6 win.

Michael Brantley, Carlos Santana, Jason Kipnis, Mike Aviles and Roberto Perez knocked in a run each for the Indians, who were coming off a series win over Houston and have won seven of their last 10 overall.

"I thought we came out really good, swinging at strikes that we could handle and getting runs on the board," said Indians manager Terry Francona. "They came right back, but then we came right back."

Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run shot and drove in three for the White Sox, who suffered their seventh consecutive defeat. Avisail Garcia added two RBI and Adam Eaton knocked in the other run for the hosts.

"We'll make a push if we can and if we can't, we'll end on a good note for next year," Eaton said. "Show the league the White Sox are going to be coming back."

The White Sox are 8-6 versus Cleveland this season, winning six of eight in Chicago.
