HRs in 10th boost White Sox over Twins
Sep 3, 2014 - 5:52 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Dayan Viciedo hit a go-ahead home run in the 10th inning as the Chicago White Sox nabbed a 6-3 win over the Minnesota Twins in the first of a two-game set.Viciedo led off the 10th with his 18th home run of the season. A single from Paul Konerko preceded Tyler Flowers' second home run of the game for a 6-3 margin.
Jake Petricka pitched a 1-2-3 bottom half of the 10th for his 11th save of the season.
Flowers finished with four RBI while Carlos Sanchez was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the White Sox, who have won three of four.
"Even though we're not where we want to be right now, there's still a level of professionalism you have to keep," Flowers said.
Hector Noesi gave up three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in seven innings. Daniel Webb (6-4) got the final two outs of the ninth for the win.
Kennys Vargas hit a two-run home run while Danny Santana was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for the Twins, who have lost eight of 10.
Tommy Milone pitched just 3 2/3 innings in the start, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Lester Oliveros (0-1) was handed the loss for giving up the three runs in the 10th.
"I need to get back to attacking," Milone said.
Minnesota jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Santana led off with a single, and Vargas homered.
Chicago answered in the second to take the lead. Michael Taylor walked with two outs and Flowers followed with his 11th home run of the season. After Marcus Semien singled, Sanchez doubled him home for a 3-2 advantage.
The Twins, though, tied the game in the second as consecutive one-out singles from Eduardo Escobar and Jordan Schafer were followed by a double from Santana that scored Escobar. Schafer was tagged out at third base on the play.
Game Notes
Minnesota still holds an edge in the series season with Chicago, 8-7 ... Chicago stranded nine runners and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
