Angels complete four-game sweep in Minnesota
Sep 7, 2014 - 9:46 PM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Howie Kendrick went 3-for-4 with a homer and drove in four runs to power the Angels to a 14-4 rout of the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.Mike Trout and C.J. Cron each hit two-run homers for the AL West leaders, who swept a four-game set from the Twins for the first time since July 17-19, 1964 at Met Stadium. They have won 10 of their last 12 games.
C.J. Wilson (11-9) gave up four hits and three runs over 6 1/3 innings to notch the win.
Kennys Vargas belted a solo homer for the Twins, who have dropped eight of their last 10 games.
Logan Darnell (0-2), in his fourth major league start, yielded five hits and as many runs over 4 2/3 innings.
Kendrick led off the second with a home run to left, but Aaron Hicks had a two-run double to highlight a three-run bottom of the frame.
Trout belted his 32nd homer of the year, with Collin Cowgill aboard, in the third to tie it, and the Angels pushed ahead in the fifth. Cron doubled and scored on Erick Aybar's sacrifice fly, and Kendrick stroked a two-run double.
The Angels blew the game open by scoring six times in the sixth. Cron went deep, Albert Pujols had an RBI double and Chris Iannetta added a two-run single to highlight the frame for a 12-3 cushion.
Pinch-hitter Shawn O'Malley and Kendrick had RBI singles in the seventh, before Vargas homered in the eighth against Vinnie Pestano.
Game Notes
This marked the seventh time in Twins history they have been swept in a season series by an AL opponent ... Since 2011, Wilson is 20-6 in day games. This was his fifth straight winning decision against the Twins.
