Indians hold off Royals to end suspended game

Sep 22, 2014 - 10:43 PM Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians held on to beat the Kansas City Royals, 4-3, on Monday in the completion of a suspended game from last month.

Lonnie Chisenhall's two-out, two-run double gave the Indians a 4-2 lead in the top of the 10th inning of the Aug. 31 contest at Kauffman Stadium. The game was suspended following a 58-minute rain delay before the bottom half of the inning.

The teams resumed play Monday at Cleveland's Progressive Field prior to the start of a scheduled three-game series with playoff implications.

Scott Atchison gave up a two-out RBI single to Nori Aoki after the restart, but got Omar Infante to pop out with the tying run at second base to earn his second save and pull the Indians to within 2 1/2 games of the Royals for the AL's second wild-card spot.

Kansas City had tied the game at 2-2 on Alex Gordon's leadoff home run in the ninth off Cody Allen (6-3).

Royals closer Greg Holland (1-3) recorded two quick outs to start the 10th. Jason Kipnis then reached on Billy Butler's fielding error and Yan Gomes followed with his fourth hit of the game to put men on the corners for a pinch-hitting Chisenhall, who doubled off the right-field wall.
