Dodgers, Rockies continue business at Chavez Ravine

Sep 27, 2014 - 1:26 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The NL West-champion Los Angeles Dodgers are tuning up for the playoffs and will continue a three-game series versus the Colorado Rockies Saturday at Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers are no longer in the running for the NL's best record, but posted a 7-4 win over the Rockies in Friday's series opener.

Dee Gordon had three hits and two runs scored, while Justin Turner and Juan Uribe had two RBI apiece for the Dodgers, who have won three in a row and nine of the last 13 games.

"They have a really good lineup ... that's why they won their division," said Rockies starter Jordan Lyles. "They've got a good pitching staff to go along with it. You've got to bear down on all eight guys in the lineup."

Scott Elbert got the win in relief of starter Roberto Hernandez, who surrendered three runs in 5 2/3 innings and was aiming for a rotation spot in the postseason.

Dan Haren will gear up for the playoffs when he makes the start for Los Angeles Saturday. Haren is 13-11 with a 4.03 earned run average and did not record a decision in Monday's 5-2 loss to San Francisco, charged with two runs -- one earned -- in seven innings. He fanned seven and walked none.

Haren is 7-4 in 15 home starts and 7-9 with a 5.19 ERA in 18 career starts against the Rockies. The right-hander has lost both of his starts to the Rockies this season.

The Rockies have lost three of four games following a six-game winning streak, and received home runs from both Justin Morneau and Ben Paulsen. Morneau leads the National League with a .319 batting average.

Lyles was dealt the loss for allowing five runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Lyles posted four K's and did not issue a walk.

"Jordan threw the ball better than whatever his line is," Rockies manager Walt Weiss remarked. "It starts with getting strike one. That's the next step for Jordan, getting good counts to make it easier on him."

Eddie Butler gets the call for the Rockies and is 1-1 with a 5.56 earned run average. He will make his third career start this season and defeated Arizona for his first major league win in last Saturday's 5-1 victory. Butler limited the D-backs to a run in six innings of work.

Butler, a right-hander, made his major league debut in a 7-2 loss to the Dodgers on June 6, when he was tagged for six runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 frames.

Los Angeles is 11-6 against the Rockies this season.
