Dodgers beat Rockies in 12 innings

Sep 28, 2014 - 6:14 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Scott Van Slyke stole third base and then scored on a Franklin Morales wild pitch in the 12th inning to boost the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Van Slyke singled to right field with one out and Tim Federowicz was hit by a pitch. Van Slyke then swiped third and Morales' (6-9) errant pitch ended the 4-hour, 6-minute contest.

Adrian Gonzalez homered for the NL West champions. Van Slyke scored twice for the Dodgers, who notched their fourth straight win.

Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon left the game after the first inning with right hip irritation.

"It's something he had before in Colorado," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Nothing major. We'll get an MRI to make sure."

Michael McKenry and Ben Paulsen homered in the eighth and ninth inning, respectively, for the Rockies. Paulsen's blast to right came off Paco Rodriguez to tie the game, but Colorado lost its third straight contest.

Carlos Frias (1-1) threw the final three innings to get his first major league win.

Eddie Butler gave up eight hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings in the start for Colorado. LaTroy Hawkins became the 16th pitcher in major league history to appear in 1,000 games.

"Eddie looked sharp early, but it got away from him in the fifth," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "I'm very happy for LaTroy to hand the ball off to him for his 1,000th game. He's in select company."

Gonzalez homered in the opening inning, but Kyle Parker's ground-rule RBI double tied the game in the fourth.

Rafael Ynoa singled in Charlie Blackmon in the fifth before the Dodgers scored four times in the bottom half. The inning was highlighted by RBI doubles from Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier.

Charlie Culberson's run-scoring base hit had the Rockies within 5-3 in the sixth.
