Hundley, Rockies beat Brewers
Apr 8, 2015 - 5:18 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Hundley went 3-for-4 with an RBI and the Colorado Rockies topped the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 on Tuesday night.Troy Tulowitzki and Nolan Arenado each had two hits and knocked in a run to help the Rockies to a second straight win in this season-opening series.
"We're hitting them all over the field," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "Guys are putting together a lot of good at-bats one after the other."
Jordan Lyles (1-0) gave up two runs on five hits in six solid innings for Colorado.
Matt Garza (0-1) allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings for the Brewers.
Right fielder Ryan Braun was not in Milwaukee's lineup because of a strained rib cage muscle that forced him to exit Monday's 10-0 loss.
"I really expected us to come in and swing well," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "It surprises me that we're not."
The Rockies pushed three runs across in the fourth. Tulowitzki led off with a double and scored on a double by Arenado. Corey Dickerson followed with another double to plate Arenado and scored on a Hundley single.
Tulowitzki singled home Carlos Gonzalez in the fifth to make it 4-0.
The Brewers threatened in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with no outs. They produced their first run of the season when pinch-hitter Logan Schafer grounded into a double play. Carlos Gomez then doubled home Jean Segura, who was hit in the head by a pitch but remained in the game.
Gonzalez put the Rockies up 5-2 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Boone Logan and Adam Ottavino each tossed a perfect inning in relief for Colorado before LaTroy Hawkins pitched the ninth to earn the save.
