Arenado, Rockies sweep Giants

Apr 16, 2015 - 6:41 AM San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nolan Arenado smacked a three-run homer in the first inning and the Colorado Rockies swept the San Francisco Giants with a 4-2 win on Wednesday night.

Tyler Matzek (1-0) surrendered a run on five hits and a walk over six innings for the Rockies, who improved to 7-2 on the young campaign.

"Nolan came through again," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. "It's tough to come in here and win three games."

Adam Ottavino struck out two in a perfect ninth to notch his second save of the season.

Tim Lincecum (0-1) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and a walk over five frames for San Francisco, which has dropped six straight games. Matt Duffy cracked a solo shot in defeat.

The Rockies raced out to a healthy lead after plating three runs in the first inning.

Charlie Blackmon walked to start the game and moved to second on Carlos Gonzalez's groundout. Troy Tulowitzki singled and after Justin Morneau struck out, Arenado banged an 0-2 changeup into the seats in left-center field for his three-run shot.

"It stayed up a little bit, that's all," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of the changeup. "He made two good pitches earlier."

San Francisco answered with a run in the home first, but Colorado got it back in the second.

Angel Pagan hit a one-out single to right-center field before Blackmon's sacrifice fly made it 4-1.

Duffy belted his one-out blast deep into the seats in left in the eighth.
