D-backs top Giants in 12 innings

Apr 17, 2015 - 6:52 AM San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Hill's two-run double in the 12th inning gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a 7-6 win over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday in the opener of a four-game set.

Ender Inciarte led off the deciding frame with a single and Sergio Romo (0-1) walked Paul Goldschmidt intentionally after Inciarte stole second, setting up Hill's drive to the wall in right-center.

Matt Duffy doubled in a run in the bottom of the inning, but Randall Delgado (1-1) got Joe Panik on a comebacker to end the game.

"It was a war," said D-backs manager Chip Hale. "I thought we played fantastic defense."

The extra-inning result spoiled another terrific start from Arizona starter Archie Bradley.

Bradley made his major-league debut last week with six shutout innings in a win over reigning Cy Young and MVP winner Clayton Kershaw's LA Dodgers. He took the mound on Thursday opposite the 2014 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner and was once again up to the task.

The young righty was charged with two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Bumgarner, meanwhile, gave up four runs in seven innings in his second straight poor start since tossing seven innings of one-run ball against Arizona in the season opener on April 6.

The Giants lost their seventh straight game for the first time since 2010.

Bradley retired eight straight batters before hitting the 100-pitch mark on Panik's bloop single with two outs in the seventh. Hale opted to pull his young starter and the move backfired, as Brandon Crawford deposited the second pitch he saw from Oliver Perez into the bleachers in right field.

Brad Ziegler came on and retired pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez to end the inning. Daniel Hudson tossed a clean eighth, but Addison Reed couldn't make the 4-3 lead hold up.

Reed retired two straight after Buster Posey led off the home ninth with an infield single, and Inciarte couldn't haul in a deep fly from Panik. The play was scored a triple as Posey crossed the plate to tie the game and force extras.

Each team tacked on a run in the 10th, with A.J. Pollock's solo homer to left giving Arizona a 5-4 lead before Duffy tied it in the bottom half with an infield single.

The Giants pushed a run across on Posey's RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, but Arizona answered with Mark Trumbo's first home run of the season.

Paul Goldschmidt's three-run homer to left with two outs in the fifth gave the D-backs a 4-1 lead.

Game Notes

Bumgarner hasn't lost in his last seven starts against Arizona ... San Francisco fell to 0-4 at home ... Giants third baseman Casey McGehee (knee) returned from a four-game absence and drew a pinch-hit walk.
