Apr 25, 2015 - 12:32 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevor Bauer tries to continue his amazing start to the season on Saturday when the Cleveland Indians resume a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. After winning his first two starts, Bauer did not get a decision on Monday in Chicago, though to no fault of his own, as he scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 0.95.
The 24-year-old right-hander, who tossed six no-hit innings in Houston to start his season, has only surrendered two runs in 19 innings and has struck out 26 batters. He's also given up 11 walks.
"I think he believes in what he's doing," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He might get mad at himself, but it's after he's done pitching. It's not while he's pitching, and I think he's made a lot of strides in that area."
Opposing him on Saturday will be righty Alfredo Simon, who is also off to a tremendous start. Simon improved to 3-0 with a win over the New York Yankees on Monday, as he allowed a run and seven hits over 7 1/3 innings to lower his ERA to 1.74.
"I just try to do my best every time," said Simon, who was 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA in five starts last April. "I'm happy the way I keep pitching right now."
Cleveland's bats came alive in Friday's opener, as Brandon Moss went 3- for-5, homered twice and drove in a career-high seven runs to power the Indians to a 13-1 rout.
In 11 career games at Detroit's home park, Moss has produced like a Hall-of- Famer with seven home runs, six doubles, 22 RBI and a .465 batting average.
"I've had a lot of success in this ballpark," Moss said. "I see the ball well here. It's just one of those places, I guess."
Plenty of his teammates contributed to the 15-hit attack. Michael Brantley had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI, Lonnie Chisenhall tacked on a two-run homer and Carlos Santana hit a two-run double and scored three times.
The outburst somewhat overshadowed another stellar start from Danny Salazar (2-0), who struck out a career-high 11 batters over seven innings against Detroit's potent lineup.
The Tigers managed just six hits against Salazar and dropped their fourth straight. Nick Castellanos' homer in the second frame provided their only run.
Shane Greene (3-1), after giving up one earned run over his first three starts, was touched for eight on nine hits in an abbreviated outing. He was pulled during Cleveland's six-run fifth inning without recording an out.
"I take full responsibility," Greene said. "This (loss) is on me."
The Tigers swept a three-game set when these teams met up in Cleveland earlier this month.
