Astros attempt to get back on track versus Rangers

May 5, 2015 - 11:39 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros try to get back on the winning track Tuesday when they continue a three-game series with the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park.

Houston saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end in Monday's opener, as Robinson Chirinos' sacrifice fly in the ninth inning knocked in the go-ahead run in Texas' 2-1 win.

"This is a resilient team," said Astros manager A.J. Hinch. "Today wasn't our day but it doesn't change anything for tomorrow."

Shut down by Dallas Keuchel for the first seven innings, the Rangers scored once off the Houston ace in the eighth and another against Chad Qualls (0-2) in the ninth to prevail.

Jake Smolinski delivered the game-tying single in the eighth, and Adrian Beltre opened the ninth with a double before later coming home with the eventual winning run.

Keuchel struck out eight and yielded just five hits over eight innings, the lefty's 13th straight quality start dating back to last season. Counterpart Ross Detwiler was equally as good for Texas, holding the Astros to a run on four hits while fanning seven through seven frames.

"Big win for the team," said Detwiler. "Everybody knew about the 10-game winning streak, so it's nice to be able to put an end to that."

Getting the call for the Astros on Tuesday will be righty Scott Feldman, who is unbeaten in his last three starts (2-0). Feldman did not get a decision on Thursday against Seattle, but pitched well, allowing a pair of runs and eight hits in seven innings of his team's 3-2 win.

Feldman has faced the Rangers seven times and is 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA.

Texas, meanwhile, will turn to veteran lefty Wandy Rodriguez, who is still searching for his first win since joining the Rangers. Rodriguez lost to Seattle on Wednesday, as he surrendered four runs and five hits in 4 1/3 innings to fall to 0-1, while raising his ERA to 4.82.

Rodriguez, who spent the first seven-plus seasons of his career with the Astros, has faced his former team twice and is 1-0 against them with a 2.08 ERA.

Houston took two of three from their Lone Star State rivals earlier in the season.
