Lobstein, Tigers take care of White Sox

May 8, 2015 - 2:31 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Lobstein worked into the eighth inning and Victor Martinez added three hits with an RBI as Detroit claimed a 4-1 decision over Chicago in the finale of a three-game set.

Lobstein (3-2) gave up an unearned run on five hits through 7 2/3 innings, exiting after exactly 100 pitches and 64 for strikes. Joakim Soria recorded the final four outs to earn his 11th save.

"He was outstanding," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said of Lobstein. "He located and mixed speeds. He had as good an outing as I've seen from him."

Miguel Cabrera scored twice and drove in a run for the Tigers, who also received an RBI from Nick Castellanos to avoid a series sweep.

Avisail Garcia drove in the lone run for the White Sox, losers in six of their last eight. Jose Quintana (1-3) struck out eight but suffered the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over five full frames.

"(Lobstein) was very deceptive today," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said.

The Tigers forged ahead for good in the fifth, as Rajai Davis worked a walk, moved up on Ian Kinsler's base hit, stole third and scored on a Miguel Cabrera groundout.

Martinez brought home Kinsler and Castellanos drove in a run in the eighth to push the visitors' margin to 4-1.

Lobstein departed with a runner on first and two away in the home half, and Soria maintained that edge by striking out Jose Abreu. Chicago went down 1-2-3 in the ninth.

Detroit picked up a run in the first. Cabrera was plunked by Quintana and reached third on a Martinez base hit before scoring on a wild pitch during a walk to Yoenis Cespedes.

Chicago tied the game in the fourth, but couldn't do more with the bases loaded. Melky Cabrera reached on an error and eventually scored on a single by Garcia. After Adam LaRoche walked to load the bases, Alexei Ramirez hit into a 5-2 double play and Gordon Beckham grounded out.

Game Notes

Kinsler was the only other player on either team to record more than one hit, as both clubs combined for only 12 hits ... Lobstein recovered from a rough start in Kansas City, during which he surrendered four runs on 10 hits over 7 1/3 innings ... Coming into the contest, Quintana had been 4-2 with a 4.37 ERA in nine starts against the Tigers.
