Trumbo, Diamondbacks take out Nationals

May 13, 2015 - 5:03 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Trumbo homered twice and drove in four runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks crushed the Washington Nationals, 14-6, in the second of three at Chase Field.

Ender Inciarte homered and added three RBI to the win, while Aaron Hill had three hits and two RBI and Tuffy Gosewisch also knocked in two runs. Chris Owings was a homer shy of the cycle.

Rubby De La Rosa (4-2) earned the win after going seven innings and giving up four runs on eight hits.

"We had a good game plan going in," said D-backs manager Chip Hale. "Rubby has done a good job for us. We wanted to get him the lead."

Bryce Harper clubbed a two-run homer and scored twice for the Nationals, who had their five-game winning streak halted.

Stephen Strasburg (2-4), making his first start since leaving his last turn with shoulder/back tightness, was roughed up for a career-high eight runs -- seven earned -- on eight hits and a walk.

Strasburg got Inciarte and Trumbo on a total of nine pitches to begin the first, then he walked Paul Goldschmidt and allowed a single off the bat of David Peralta. Hill followed by going up the ladder on a high fastball and clubbing it into the right-center field gap for a 2-0 lead.

Denard Span doubled home Danny Espinosa in the third to cut the deficit to one, but Strasburg could not convert any shutdown innings throughout his outing.

Inciarte hit his first homer of the season in the home third to get the run back.

Harper hit a double to begin the fourth and later scored when Wilson Ramos grounded into a double play.

The wheels came off in the home fourth for Strasburg. Owings raced around the bags for a leadoff triple and scored a batter later on Gosewisch's single. Nick Ahmed followed with a single and the bases became loaded after Strasburg botched a sacrifice bunt attempt from De La Rosa.

Inciarte brought Gosewisch in with a sacrifice fly to center before Trumbo clobbered his fifth homer of the season for an 8-2 D-backs lead.

De La Rosa knocked in a run in the fifth preceding Inciarte's' sacrifice fly that pushed the lead to eight. Harper flicked a two-run homer over the wall in left in the sixth, but Trumbo followed in the home sixth with his second round-tripper of the night.

Arizona plated three more in the inning and cruised to the finish.
