Mets turn to deGrom to stop bleeding

May 16, 2015 - 1:25 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Faced with their longest losing streak in nearly a calendar year, the New York Mets send Jacob deGrom to the mound tonight to try and end the slide.

The Mets have dropped five in a row, their longest skid since a six-game run from June 3-8, 2014.

The latest was Friday's 7-0 setback to the Brewers in the opener of this three-game set. That dropped the Mets to 13-4 at Citi Field this season.

Over his last four starts, deGrom has posted a 1-3 mark. In a 4-3 loss Monday at Wrigley Field, the righty gave up four runs on five hits and four walks over five frames. On the positive side, in his last 10 home starts, dating to July 8, 2014, he is 8-1 with a 1.30 ERA.

In his career, deGrom has posted a 1-1 mark with a 2.25 ERA in two starts versus Milwaukee.

Matt Garza is coming off a no-decision against the Cubs on Sunday when he lasted seven innings. The righty posted nine strikeouts. He is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in three career starts against the Mets.

On Friday, Ryan Braun cracked a two-run and solo shot, while Gerardo Parra added a solo blast and an RBI double for the Brewers, who have won four of their last six games. Kyle Lohse struck out eight and allowed just two hits and a walk in his eight shutout innings.

"I was just having a good four-pitch mix," Lohse said.

Bartolo Colon surrendered six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits over five frames for New York.

"It's unfortunate he made a couple of mistakes and he ended up paying for it," Mets second baseman Johnny Monell said.

Mets second baseman Dilson Herrera broke the tip of his middle finger during fielding drills. He's expected to go on the 15-day disabled list.

The Mets are 6-14 against the Brewers at Citi Field. The last time New York won the season series between the two teams was in 2008. Milwaukee won four of its seven meetings with the Mets a year ago. The Brewers have also won 13 of their last 16 in Flushing.
