Bolsinger, Dodgers shut out Rockies
May 17, 2015 - 11:54 PM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Bolsinger struck out six over six scoreless innings in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 1-0 win over the Colorado Rockies to split a four-game series. After finishing with a 5.50 ERA in 10 starts as a rookie for the Diamondbacks in 2014, Bolsinger (2-0) lowered his earned-run average to 1.04 after allowing just three hits and two walks in his third start of the season for the Dodgers.
Yasmani Grandal's two-out single in the fourth inning provided the only run of the game, and Kenley Jansen recorded his first save since returning from the disabled list.
"With the bullpen that we have, it seems like our starters should just go five innings," said Grandal.
Despite losing control of the strike zone at times, Kyle Kendrick (1-5) allowed just a run in seven innings with five walks and failed to earn his first win since Opening Day, when he threw seven scoreless innings at Milwaukee.
"He was great," said Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado. "He kept the ball down, got out of trouble when he needed to, and he did what we expect him to do."
Kendrick sailed through the first 3 2/3 innings, only allowing two batters to reach base, but Adrian Gonzalez singled with two outs and Justin Turner walked before Grandal's ground ball skipped past a diving Rafael Ynoa into right field for a run-scoring single.
The Rockies generated nothing against Bolsinger through the first four innings and then coughed up their best chance to score in the fifth. Singles by Nick Hundley and Daniel Descalso gave Colorado runners on the corners with one out, but Bolsinger escaped the jam by striking out Kendrick and Charlie Blackmon, who was quickly ejected for arguing balls and strikes.
Los Angeles had an opportunity to add to its lead in the sixth when Kendrick walked the bases loaded, but he escaped the jam when Andre Ethier lined out to center.
After Bolsinger departed, three Dodgers relievers combined to toss three perfect innings. Jansen induced a pair of popouts and struck out Wilin Rosario to end the game.
