Streaking Phils open up road trip against Rockies

May 18, 2015 - 2:36 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies kick off a 10-game road trip riding their longest winning streak of the season, a run they'll look to extend on Monday night in the first of four straight meetings with the Colorado Rockies.

The Phillies have ripped off five straight wins, the latest a 6-0 victory on Sunday that finished off a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Highly-touted prospect Maikel Franco highlighted the victory with his first career home run and triple as he finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Franco was playing in his third game this season and 19th of his career after being recalled on Friday.

"We see him settling in and I think he's starting to feel more comfortable," said Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg.

Darin Ruf hit a solo homer while Ben Revere, Cesar Hernandez and Cameron Rupp drove in a run each for the Phillies.

Sean O'Sullivan tossed six innings, allowing five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in his first win in over four years. He had been held without a victory over 18 games (13 starts) since his last win on May 12, 2011, when he was a member of Kansas City. He had lost nine straight decisions.

Cole Hamels takes the mound for the Phillies tonight having won three of his past four starts, moving to 3-3 on the year with a 3.53 earned run average.

Hamels won a second start in a row on Wednesday as he topped the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2. He yielded two runs on five hits over seven innings, walking one and matching a season high with nine strikeouts. It marked the fifth time in eight starts this season that he allowed two or fewer earned runs in a start.

The 31-year-old lefty is an even 3-3 lifetime versus the Rockies with a 3.62 ERA in eight meetings.

The Rockies have to be relieved that Jordan Lyles will be able to make his start tonight after he exited his last outing after just one inning of work.

Lyles threw a perfect opening frame against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, but the last out began with Albert Pujols hitting a liner off his hand. The ball did ricochet to second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who was able to record the third out.

Lyles was replaced at the start of the second inning.

"He took a bullet off of his pitching hand and it swelled up pretty quickly," said bench coach Tom Runnells, who said X-rays on Lyles' hand were negative.

The right-hander has lost each of his past two decisions, falling to 2-3 with a 4.30 ERA on the season, and is 1-0 with a 2.74 ERA in four career starts versus the Phillies.

The Rockies will try to give Lyles some offensive support tonight after getting blanked 1-0 by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. It was Colorado's 13th loss in 15 games.

Despite losing control of the strike zone at times, Kyle Kendrick allowed just a run in seven innings with five walks and failed to earn his first win since Opening Day, when he threw seven scoreless innings at Milwaukee.

"He was great," said Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado. "He kept the ball down, got out of trouble when he needed to, and he did what we expect him to do."

The Rockies have won four of their past five at home against the Phillies.
