Anderson pitches D-backs past Marlins
May 21, 2015 - 4:37 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chase Anderson pitched a gem on Wednesday, ending a personal eight-start winless streak and helping the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-1 win over the Miami Marlins.Anderson (1-1) limited the Marlins to a run on four hits in eight-plus innings.
"I think he felt comfortable," said D-backs manager Chip Hale. "I think he felt like he was home pitching in Texas with the humidity."
A.J. Pollock went 3-for-4 with four runs and three steals and David Peralta had three RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have won the first three games of this four-game series. It is their first three-game road win streak since June of last season.
David Phelps (2-1) yielded four runs on five hits in five innings to absorb the loss.
Miami has lost six straight games and fell to 0-3 under new manager Dan Jennings.
"This is going to turn," said Jennings. "We're in the storm right now. These guys are working. They are getting their work."
Anderson was second-to-last in the majors in run support this season but was given an early run on Peralta's RBI groundout in the first inning.
Nick Ahmed doubled in another run in the second, and Anderson helped himself with an RBI groundout to make it 3-0.
Pollock stole home in the top of the fifth for Arizona's fourth run.
Anderson faced the minimum through four innings and didn't surrender a hit until Martin Prado led off the fifth with a single to left. Justin Bour doubled with one away in the sixth, but Anderson didn't allow either runner to advance.
Peralta made it 5-0 with his sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and he put the finishing touches on his night by driving in Pollock once more with a single in the ninth.
Anderson looked to polish off his first career complete game but ran into trouble in the ninth, plunking Dee Gordon around singles by Justin Bour and Marcell Ozuna.
Brad Ziegler came on and induced a Giancarlo Stanton double-play that ended the shutout. Prado then flew to center to end the game.
