Red Sox hope to regroup vs. Angels

May 23, 2015 - 1:58 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - It's been a turbulent month for the Boston Red Sox, who look to get their act together at home in the second game of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels Saturday at Fenway Park.

Boston's troubled pitching staff turns to Steven Wright in this contest and he gets his fourth start of the season. The Angels will turn to lefty C.J. Wilson.

Wilson has earned no-decisions in four of his last five starts, including his most recent outing against Toronto, where he was roughed up for 10 hits and four runs in five innings of work. This came just one start after Wilson's dominant eight-inning win over Colorado.

Wilson is 2-2 on the season with a 3.06 earned run average and 36 strikeouts. In four road starts this season, the 34-year-old is 1-1 with seven earned runs (eight total), a 2.36 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in 26 2/3 innings.

Wright hasn't exactly been masterful in his three starts for Boston this season. The 30-year-old righty is 1-1 on the year with a 4.02 ERA, nine strikeouts and seven walks. Wright was on for Justin Masterson last Sunday, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

It wasn't an excellent start for Wright against Seattle, as the right-hander gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) in five innings on the mound, adding four strikeouts to his resume. The Red Sox couldn't generate any offense behind their starter in the 5-0 defeat.

Wright's longest outing this season was a 5 2/3-inning stint against Oakland back on May 12 - a no-decision for the pitcher after allowing six hits and three runs.

The Angels took it to Rick Porcello and the Red Sox Friday in a 12-5 win on the road. Porcello, who had been pitching well coming into his most recent start, was rocked for seven hits and seven runs in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Garrett Richards didn't have the most spectacular outing for Los Angeles, lasting six innings and allowing nine hits with five runs and just a single strikeout. But it was enough to get the job done and pick up his fourth win.

Run support came from every which direction Friday for the Angels. Chris Iannetta clobbered a three-run home run in the fifth inning, and Albert Pujols and Erick Aybar each added homers in the win.

Seven of the nine batters that stepped to the plate Friday for Los Angeles recorded at least one RBI in the lopsided victory. Brock Holt provided the Red Sox with two runs, and Mike Napoli got the ball rolling in the first inning with a solo shot to center field.

Los Angeles seems to continuously have Boston's number. The Angels have now won eight of their past 10 games against the Red Sox.
