Rangers eye eighth straight win and sweep of Tribe
May 27, 2015 - 11:16 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers go after their eighth straight win on Wednesday when they close out a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.Texas eked out another win on Tuesday, as Mitch Moreland's eight-inning homer proved to be the difference in a 4-3 victory.
Prince Fielder added three hits and struck the biggest blow, a game-tying three-run shot in the fifth for the Rangers, while Elvis Andrus also picked up three hits, as Texas rolled to its eighth win in nine games.
"(Fielder) is a tremendous hitter," said Rangers manager Jeff Banister.
Keone Kela (4-1) tossed a scoreless bottom of the seventh, while Shawn Tolleson had an unquiet ninth but gained his fifth save anyway.
Texas, which can go over .500 for the first time since last June, hasn't won eight in a row since Aug. 4-12, 2013.
"The reality is the day we start worrying about if we're .500 or one game over or below .500 really goes against the concept that we set out for all of spring training," Banister said. "Ultimately you set out to win the game today with the idea you're end goal is to get to the playoffs."
Ryan Raburn finished with a home run among his two hits and scored twice for the Indians. Jason Kipnis also went deep in the setback.
Nick Hagadone (0-1) took the loss after giving up Moreland's blast.
Heading to the hill for the Indians this afternoon will be righty Carlos Carrasco, who is 5-4 with a 4.74 ERA. Carrasco stopped a personal two-start losing streak on Friday, as he held the Cincinnati Reds to a pair of runs in six innings.
Carrasco is 0-2 with a 7.29 ERA in five games (3 starts) against the Rangers.
Texas, meanwhile, will turn to righty Colby Lewis, who has won his last three decisions. Lewis beat the New York Yankees on Friday, but allowed five runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings to run his record to 4-2 to go along with a 3.49 ERA.
Lewis, who has yielded 10 earned runs in his last 11 2/3 innings, has faced the Tribe seven times (6 starts) and is 2-1 against them with a 6.75 ERA.
Despite losses in the first two of this set, Cleveland, which took two of three in Texas earlier in the season, has still won 13 of 17 in this series.
