Hamilton comes through for Rangers in 9th
Jun 1, 2015 - 2:29 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Hamilton's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning propelled Texas to a 4-3 victory over Boston in the finale of a three-game series.Hanser Alberto reached on an error to start the frame against Koji Uehara (2-2), then was sacrificed to second. He moved to third on a Shin-Soo Choo groundout, then Prince Fielder was intentionally walked.
Hamilton filled in for Adam Rosales -- who himself was a substitute for the injured Adrian Beltre -- and drove a pitch to the wall in left center which was enough to bring around both runs to end the contest.
"It feels like old times," Hamilton said. "It really does. It's a lot of fun. Coming back home and having some good games against Boston and then having a game like today reminds you of some good times for the Rangers."
The hit made a winner of Ross Ohlendorf (1-0), who tossed a scoreless top of the ninth.
Beltre finished 2-for-3 and drove in the first two runs for the Rangers before exiting due to a sprained thumb. Though x-rays were negative, he is expected to miss two weeks. Alberto chipped in two hits for the winning side.
Xander Bogaerts picked up three hits and an RBI while Hanley Ramirez added two hits and drove in the other run for the Red Sox.
Ramirez brought in Mookie Betts with a two-out single in the first, then a Beltre groundout scored Delino DeShields Jr. in the home half.
With runners on the corners and two away in the second, Beltre's error on a Dustin Pedroia grounder allowed Pablo Sandoval to cross home and give the Red Sox a 2-1 edge.
"Yeah, it's difficult," Sandoval said. "But you have to keep your head up. You have to keep fighting through tough moments. The good moments are coming, so you have to keep fighting."
Beltre then punched a single to center in the bottom of the third to score Choo, and the game remained in a deadlock until Bogaerts singled home Ramirez with two out in the sixth.
Game Notes
Hamilton collected his eighth career walk-off hit ... Prior to the game, the Red Sox signed infielder Jeff Bianchi to a one-year contract ...
