Brewers eye third straight win

Jun 2, 2015 - 12:16 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Milwaukee Brewers go after a third straight win on Tuesday when they play the middle test of a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

Milwaukee drew first blood in this series on Monday, as Mike Fiers pitched six scoreless innings and the Brewers eked out a 1-0 win.

Fiers (2-5) struck out six, yielding just four hits and two walks to help the Brewers to their second straight win following a seven-game losing streak. Francisco Rodriguez picked up his ninth save.

Carlos Gomez's RBI single in the first inning was the only scoring in the game.

Jaime Garcia (1-2) suffered the tough-luck loss despite allowing just one hit after the first inning. He was charged with the lone run, striking out four in seven innings.

However, Matt Holliday singled and walked in the loss to extend his NL record by reaching base in a 45th straight game to open the season. Derek Jeter set the MLB mark of 53 games in 1999.

Should Holliday get on base again Tuesday he would tie Ray Sanders (1944), Solly Hemus (1953) and Albert Pujols (2001) for St. Louis' fourth-best on-base streak since 1914 at 48 dating to last season.

Stan Musial still holds the team record of 55, set in 1943.

Getting the call for the Cardinals on Tuesday will be righty Lance Lynn, who is 3-4 with a 3.41 ERA. Lynn did not get a decision on Wednesday against Arizona, as he surrendered three runs (2 earned) and six hits in six innings of his team's 4-3 win.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, will turn to righty Tyler Cravy, who will be making his major league debut. The Brewers were scrambling for a starter in the wake of Sunday's 17-inning win.

Cravy was 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A Colorado Springs

St. Louis has won four of seven from the Brewers this season and has taken the last six series from them.
