Norris, Padres take out Mets
Jun 3, 2015 - 6:30 AM San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Derek Norris hit a two-run home run to lead the San Diego Padres to a 7-2 win over the New York Mets in the second of a three-game set. Will Venable and Alexi Amarista each drove in a pair of runs while Yonder Alonso was 3-for-4 with two runs for the Padres, who have won five of their last eight.
Ian Kennedy (3-5) snapped a four-start losing streak as he gave up just two runs on six hits with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts in six innings.
"You could see his confidence build with all his pitches," Padres manager Bud Black said.
Michael Cuddyer and Wilmer Flores each drove in a run for the Mets, who had a two-game losing streak snapped. Noah Syndergaard (2-3) was tagged for all seven runs on 10 hits while striking out 10 in four innings to take the loss.
"He's always been tough on us," Mets manager Terry Collins said of Kennedy. "We just never get him squared up very good."
The Mets went on top in the first as Cuddyer's RBI single scored Ruben Tejada for a 1-0 lead.
San Diego, though, took the lead for good in the second. With the bases loaded, Amarista hit a two-run single to right, and Venable later smacked a two-run triple for a 4-1 lead.
The Padres made it a 5-1 advantage in the third as Alonso singled with one out and Cory Spangenberg brought him home with a triple.
Norris' two-run blast, his fifth of the season, came in the fourth for a 7-1 lead.
Flores singled home Cuddyer in the sixth to account for the final score.
