Yanks down M's in 11 innings

Jun 3, 2015 - 6:20 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Garrett Jones smacked a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the 11th inning and the New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 in the second of a three-game set.

Stephen Drew, who hit a game-tying double in the ninth, hit a one-out single against Tom Wilhelmsen (1-1). Brett Gardner followed with a double and Jones hammered his three-run shot into the front row of seats into right-center.

Robinson Cano hit an RBI single in the home 11th against his former team to get Seattle within 5-3, but Andrew Miller struck out Nelson Cruz to end the game and notch his 16th save of the season.

Gardner finished with two hits and a pair of runs scored for the Yankees, who have won the first two games of the series. Justin Wilson (2-0) blanked Seattle in the 10th to record the win.

Mike Montgomery fired six innings of one-run ball in his MLB debut, scattering four hits and walking two for the Mariners, who have dropped five of their last six games.

"The debut of our starter was tremendous," Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I was very proud of the way he went about his business."

Austin Jackson posted four hits to go with an RBI and a run scored in defeat.

The Mariners broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the sixth.

Logan Morrison hit a one-out single before Welington Castillo's base hit two batters later put runners on the corners. David Carpenter came on for Sabathia and Morrison came home on Jackson's double to center.

The Yankees knotted the game against Fernando Rodney in the ninth. Chase Headley walked to start the frame before Carlos Beltran flied out and Didi Gregorius struck out. Brian McCann singled to left and Drew ripped a double to right to plate Headley. Gardner grounded out to first to end the threat.

Carlos Beltran bounced into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play with the bases loaded and one out in the 10th.

Earlier, New York and Seattle traded runs in the third.

Gardner worked a one-out walk in the top half, moved to second on an Alex Rodriguez walk and scored later in the frame on Mark Teixeira's double down the left-field line.

Jackson singled with one out and Cano slapped a base hit to right two batters later before Cruz's roller through the right side of the infield brought home Jackson.
