D-backs, Braves play rubber match in desert

Jun 3, 2015 - 2:15 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Arizona Diamondbacks eye a series win on Wednesday when they close out their three-game set with the Atlanta Braves at Chase Field.

Arizona bounced back from a loss in Monday's opener, as A.J. Pollock's two-run home run lifted the Diamondbacks to a 7-6 win. Pollock finished the game with three RBI while Ender Inciarte scored twice and drove in two for the Diamondbacks, who won for only the third time in eight tries.

"Tried putting it in the gap ... fortunately it went over the fence," Pollock said.

Josh Collmenter allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in the start. Andrew Chafin (3-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

A.J. Pierzynski and Todd Cunningham each drove in a pair of runs for the Braves, who had a three-game winning streak stopped.

Shelby Miller had his worst start of the season as he gave up a season-high four runs on six hits along with six walks in just a season-low 4 1/3 innings. Brandon Cunniff (2-1) allowed Pollock's homer to take the loss.

"Didn't really get in the groove," Miller said. "Our offense did a heck of a job coming back and scoring runs."

Getting the call for the D-backs on Wednesday will be righty Rubby De La Rosa, who is 4-2 with a 4.50 ERA. De La Rosa did not get a decision on Friday in Milwaukee, as he allowed four runs and six hits in five innings of his team's 7-5 win.

Atlanta, meanwhile, will turn to righty Mike Foltynewicz, who has lost two of his last three starts. Foltynewicz lost to San Francisco on Friday, despite a solid showing that saw him surrender two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings. He also struck out eight, but fell to 3-2 with a 3.96 ERA.

"I'm keeping the walks down and just going out there and attacking guys," Foltynewicz said. "Everything is coming along pretty well."

Arizona split its six games with the Braves last season.
