Gallardo tries to pitch Rangers to series win

Jun 4, 2015 - 11:07 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Yovani Gallardo eyes a third straight win on Thursday when the Texas Rangers conclude a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox at Rangers Ballpark.

Gallardo had lost four straight starts, but rebounded to win three of his next four, including a pair of impressive outings his last two times out. Gallardo beat the Boston Red Sox on Friday, limiting them to an earned run in six innings, as he improved to 5-6 to go along with a 3.88 ERA.

"It was a good win. The guys made some great plays behind me. I felt good and I was able to move my fastball around."

Chicago, meanwhile, will turn to rookie Carlos Rodon, who is 1-0 with a 3.45 ERA. The third overall pick in last year's draft, Rodon has started to hit his stride and has given up just one earned run in each of his last two starts.

Rodon did not get a decision on Friday in Houston, but was solid, yielding three runs (1 earned) and eight hits in 6 1/3 frames of his team's 6-3 win.

Chicago evened this series at a game apiece on Wednesday, as Jose Abreu capped a six-run second inning with a two-run homer, and the White Sox jumped on Nick Martinez early and cruised to a 9-2 victory.

Abreu added an RBI single in the fourth as the White Sox improved to 5-5 on an 11-game road trip that'll culminate this afternoon.

Tyler Flowers also smacked a two-run shot, and Carlos Sanchez and Adam Eaton each knocked in two runs to back a strong start from Chris Sale (5-2), who struck out 13 over seven frames and allowed just three hits and two walks.

Joey Gallo, though, homered in his second straight game for the Rangers, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.

Martinez (4-2) came in with a sparkling 2.03 ERA but saw it increase by nearly a run after getting touched for seven runs on nine hits over 3 1/3 innings.

To make matters worse for the Rangers, Josh Hamilton will be out of the lineup for four weeks because of a strained left hamstring.

Texas went 4-2 against Chicago last season.
