Rangers nip White Sox in 11 innings

Jun 5, 2015 - 6:07 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Shin-Soo Choo drove in the winning run in the 11th inning to lead the Texas Rangers in a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a three-game set.

With Dan Jennings (1-2) on the mound for Chicago, Leonys Martin led off the 11th with a single and was moved to second on a Hanser Alberto sacrifice bunt. After Delino DeShields was issued a free pass, Choo singled to left and Martin came home for the win.

Prince Fielder drove in the other run and Tanner Scheppers (2-0) got the win for a scoreless inning of relief for the Rangers, who have won five of their last six. Yovani Gallardo allowed a run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six innings.

"Gallardo grinded through," Texas manager Jeff Banister said.

Gordon Beckham drove in the only run of the game for the White Sox, who have lost three of their last five. Carlos Rodon gave up a run on five hits while walking three and striking out 10 in six innings.

"We wish we would have gotten this one tonight," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "They battled."

Texas worked a run across in the first inning as DeShields led off with a double and, after Choo walked, scored on a Fielder single. Rodon struck out the next three batters to escape the jam.

The White Sox had left men in scoring position the first two innings but was able to push a run across in the fourth.

Avisail Garcia reached base on a bad throw from Joey Gallo and moved to third on an Alexi Ramirez single. Beckham followed with a sac fly to tie the game.

Texas loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but Alberto grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.

Game Notes

Texas plays three games in Kansas City starting on Friday ... Chicago hosts Detroit for three games beginning Friday ... The Rangers placed outfielder Josh Hamilton on the 15-day disabled list and reinstated pitcher Ross Detwiler from the DL. Also, the team outrighted infielder Tommy Field to Triple-A Round Rock ... The Rangers were 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14, while Chicago was 0-for-5 with RISP and left 10.
