Brewers, Rockies close set at Coors Field
Jun 21, 2015 - 11:31 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Garza was hit hard in his last start and suffered his eighth loss of the season. The Milwaukee right-hander tries to bounce back Sunday afternoon when the Brewers battle the Colorado Rockies in the rubber match of a three-game set at Coors Field.Garza was pulled with two outs in the seventh and was charged with six runs on a career-worst 13 hits in a 7-2 loss to the Royals on Tuesday.
In six career starts against the Rockies, Garza is 2-4 with a 5.25 ERA. That includes a 5-2 loss this season on April 7 at Miller Park. He's 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in two career starts at Coors Field.
Chris Rusin hopes to end a two-start losing streak when he takes the mound for the Rockies. The 28-year-old left-hander has given up 20 hits and 13 runs over 9 1/3 innings in road defeats to Miami and Houston over his previous two outings. He's 0-2 with a 6.39 ERA in three all-time starts versus Milwaukee.
Charlie Blackmon hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, while Chad Bettis tossed 6 1/3 solid innings in Colorado's 5-1 win Saturday.
Bettis (3-2) allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks for the Rockies, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
"He had it all working, but the command was real good," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said about Bettis.
Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse (3-9) gave up three runs on four hits while striking out five over six innings. The right-hander fell to 0-5 since his last win, May 15 at New York's Citi Field.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell was still pleased with Lohse's performance.
"I thought Kyle pitched great, I really did," Counsell said.
The Brewers will try to avoid falling more than 20 games under .500 for the first time since the end of the 2004 season (67-94).
Colorado swept Milwaukee in three games from April 6-8. The Brewers have won five of their last seven games in Denver.
