Phils seek third straight win

Jun 23, 2015 - 11:42 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies eye their third straight win on Tuesday when they continue a three-game series with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Philadelphia snapped a 12-game road losing streak on Monday, as Maikel Franco went 4-for-5 with two homers and five RBI in the Phillies' 11-8 victory.

"I think he's the right guy for the spot there. The way he's swinging the bat and makes something happen," manager Ryne Sandberg said of Franco. "He's been our most consistent and productive hitter on a daily basis with driving the ball and stinging it."

Cesar Hernandez finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Ryan Howard contributed a two-run single and Ben Revere and Freddy Galvis each had three hits while crossing the plate twice for the Phillies, who won away from home for the first time since May 23.

The Phillies pounded out 18 hits in all in their highest scoring output of the season.

Michael Pineda (8-4) took the brunt of the Phils' onslaught, as he allowed eight runs and 11 hits over 3 1/3 innings.

"You've got to make good pitches every time you go out, that's the bottom line. Tonight he just didn't," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Pineda.

Philadelphia starter Kevin Correia fared only marginally better than Pineda, surrendering five runs and eight hits in four innings. Jake Diekman (2-1) tossed two scoreless frames of relief, however, to earn the win.

The Yankees dropped their second straight despite a 4-for-4 effort by Brett Gardner that included a three-run homer. Brian McCann added a solo shot and drove in two runs, while Carlos Beltran went 3-for-5 with an RBI double.

Getting the call for New York on Tuesday will be lefty CC Sabathia, who is 3-7 on the season with a 5.31 ERA. Sabathia had one of his better showings this season on Thursday against Miami, as he surrendered three runs and five hits in six innings. However, he did not get a decision in his team's 9-4 win.

Sabathia has struggled at Yankee Stadium this season, going 1-3 with a 7.92 ERA in five starts there.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, will turn to righty Sean O'Sullivan, who has lost his last three decisions. O'Sullivan hasn't pitched since a loss in Pittsburgh on June 13 and is 1-5 on the year with a 4.79 ERA.

O'Sullivan has split his four starts versus the Yankees, pitching to a 5.87 ERA in those outings.

This is the Phillies first visit to the Bronx since taking two of three back in 2010.
