Franco sparks Phils to another win in the Bronx

Jun 24, 2015 - 6:07 AM Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Maikel Franco drove in five runs for the second straight night, and the rookie's two-run double in the ninth inning helped lift the Philadelphia Phillies an 11-6 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday.

Franco homered twice to help the Phillies snap a 12-game road losing streak on Monday, and another monster effort at the plate, including a three-run blast, clinched the club's first road series victory of the season.

"I'm seeing a lot of good pitches to hit," Franco said. "That's what is happening right now."

Andres Blanco tacked on a three-run triple following Franco's go-ahead hit in the ninth, while the top of Philadelphia's lineup -- Ben Revere and Cesar Hernandez -- combined for six hits, five runs scored and an RBI.

Cameron Rupp added a two-run homer for the Phillies, who overcome four Yankees home runs and their lights-out closer.

Dellin Betances (4-1), who came in having allowed one earned run in 35 innings this year, was charged with four in the deciding ninth. Revere led things off with a double, Hernandez was hit by a pitch despite showing bunt, and Franco lined a double down the line to bring in both runners.

"They got the best of me today," Betances said. "I felt good in the eighth inning, but in the ninth inning I fell behind hitters and they took advantage."

Nick Rumbleow relieved Betances and walked Domonic Brown to load the bases, and Blanco capped the Phillies' second five-run inning of the night with a clearing triple.

Both starters, Sean O'Sullivan or CC Sabathia, allowed six runs and did not make it out of the fifth inning. Five relievers combined for 4 2/3 innings of three-hit ball behind O'Sullivan, with Ken Giles (3-1) earning the win.

Brett Gardner doubled and scored on an Alex Rodriguez sacrifice fly in the first, and Garrett Jones landed a solo shot in the second deck in right an inning later.

After Hernandez doubled in Revere to get the Phillies on the board, Gardner homered for the fourth time in his last six games in the home third.

Philadelphia answered with a then season-high five-run fourth frame. Rupp's first career home run -- and first by a Phillies catcher this season -- landed in the bullpen beyond the left-field wall, and Franco took Sabathia the other way for a three-run blast and a 6-3 lead that did not last long.

Chase Headley started the fifth with his 100th career home run, and Rodriguez followed with his 669th. Doubles by Carlos Beltran and Chris Young later in the frame evened things.

Gardner was thrown out at the plate by Freddy Galvis in the sixth.

The game was delayed one hour, 21 minutes for rain ... The Phillies have scored 31 runs during a three-game winning streak. They totaled 19 over their prior 10 games ... Philadelphia had gone 0-13-1 over 14 road series dating back to last season ... Prior to the game, the Yankees placed infielder Stephen Drew on the paternity list, recalled right-handed pitcher Bryan Mitchell and infielder Jose Pirela from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre, and optioned outfielder Ramon Flores to Scranton ... The Phillies can sweep the three-game series on Wednesday with ace Cole Hamels on the hill.
