Greg Bird reached base four times as Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright conceded 10 hits.

Pitcher Michael Pineda retired 12 of 13 batters mid-game in delivering seven innings.

A Bird single and two-run doubles from Austin Romine and Ronald Torreyes sealed the win late on.

The Seattle Mariners won a thrilling encounter with the Texas Rangers 9-8.

Norman Mazara's solo at the top of the ninth gave the Rangers the lead, but Seattle responded with two runs in the bottom of the innings - Sam Dyson walking Mitch Haniger and Nelson Cruz taking a single up the middle with the bases loaded.

Trey Mancini hit two home runs as the Baltimore Orioles thrashed the Toronto Blue Jays 11-4, with Dylan Bundy pitching six scoreless innings.

Bryce Harper hit a three-run homer in the ninth as the Washington Nationals snatched a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Boston Red Sox enjoyed 17 hits in a 7-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Elsewhere, the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 4-1, the Milwaukee Brewers were 4-2 winners over the Cincinnati Reds and the Miami Marlins overcame the New York Mets 4-2.

The Atlanta Braves romped to a 9-2 victory over the San Diego Padres, the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1 and Alcides Escobar's hit in the ninth snatched a 1-0 win for the Kansas City Royals against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Colorado Rockies were 4-3 winners against the San Francisco Giants, the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 and the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins by the same scoreline.

Rain forced the Houston Astros' trip to the Oakland Athletes to be postponed.
