Royals minor leaguer suspended

Jan 10, 2008 - 7:20 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Kansas City Royals minor leaguer Jacob Rodriguez has been suspended for 50 games after failing to take a drug test, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.

The 19-year-old righthander's ban will take effect at the start of the 2008 season.

Rodriguez, a 6-1, 220-pounder taken by Kansas City in the 22nd round of the 2007 draft, played for the Surprise Royals of the Arizona Rookie League last season.
