Rockies' Desmond leaves with calf injury

LOUIS -- Rockies first baseman Ian Desmond left Colorado's Tuesday night game with the St. Louis Cardinals before the bottom of the fourth inning after re-injuring his right calf.Desmond batted once, striking out in the second inning. He was activated from the 10-day disabled list July 16, 14 days after the original injury shelved him.
Desmond is batting .285 with five homers and 32 RBIs in 65 games, and he leads the team with 10 stolen bases. Mark Reynolds replaced him at first base.
The 31-year-old veteran signed a five-year, $70 million contract with the Rockies during the offseason.
