White Sox put OF Garcia (thumb) on disabled list

Jul 27, 2017 - 7:08 PM The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Avisail Garcia on the 10-day disabled list on Thursday with a sprained right thumb.

The White Sox also recalled outfielder Willy Garcia from Charlotte and purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Aaron Bummer from the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.

Avisail Garcia, 26, is hitting .303 with 17 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 54 RBIs and 46 runs over 88 games with the White Sox. He is tied for fourth in the American League with 11 triples and was selected to his first AL All-Star team earlier this month.

Willy Garcia, 24, is batting .259 with five doubles, three triples, one home run, 10 RBIs and 12 runs in 35 games over two stints with the White Sox this season, his first in the major leagues. He also is hitting .286 with six doubles, five homers, 20 RBIs and a .396 on-base percentage in 31 games with the Knights.

Bummer, 23, has made 20 combined appearances (one start) between Double-A Birmingham and the Knights this season, going 1-3 with a 2.84 ERA, three saves, 39 strikeouts and a .248 opponents average (34-137). He opened the season with the Barons and made 17 appearances before being promoted to Charlotte on July 17.

Bummer, who is in the majors for the first time, has limited opponents to a .140 average with runners in scoring position.
