Giants sign RHP Hennessey

Jan 19, 2008 - 12:08 AM SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants avoided arbitration with Brad Hennessey on Friday by signing the righthander to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Hennessey, 27, took over the closer's role in May after righthander Armando Benitez was traded to the Florida Marlins.

A fourth-year pro, Hennessey went 4-5 with a 3.42 ERA and converted 19 of 24 save opportunities before relinquishing the role to righthander Brian Wilson in the season's final two weeks.

The 21st overall pick of the 2001 draft, Hennessey has a career mark of 17-18 with a 3.77 ERA and 20 saves in 131 games - all with the Giants.
