Mets put infielder Jose Reyes on 10-day disabled list
Aug 18, 2017 - 4:32 AM NEW YORK (AP) — Jose Reyes was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday by the New York Mets with a sore left ribcage. Fellow infielder Wilmer Flores remained out of the lineup against the Yankees with a similar injury. Flores planned to work out before the game, and the team decided not to put him on the DL. But manager Terry Collins said Flores probably wouldn't be available off the bench, and he did not play in a 7-5 loss that gave the Yankees a four-game sweep of the Subway Series. Both players sat out Wednesday night as well. New York recalled infielders Matt Reynolds and Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas. Reynolds started at third base and batted eighth at Citi Field, going 2 for 4 with an RBI single. Right-hander Kevin McGowan was optioned to Las Vegas. Reyes said he was injured on a swing Tuesday night against Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman. "I've got a little bit of swelling there, but it's better than last year," Reyes told reporters. "Last year it happened to me, too, but this time it's much better." The veteran switch-hitter was put on the DL retroactive to Wednesday. He is batting .223 with nine homers, 39 RBIs and a team-high 14 stolen bases. "Everybody thinks it's not going to be a long thing. Take two days without doing anything and see what happens after that," Reyes said. Reynolds hit .204 in 49 at-bats with one home run and two RBIs during three previous stints with the Mets this season. He was batting .320 with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 33 games at Las Vegas. Cecchini went 4 for 14 in five games with the Mets earlier this year and hit his first major league home run off Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw on June 19. Cecchini was batting .267 with six homers, 27 doubles and 39 RBIs in 110 games at Triple-A. ___ More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/tag/MLBbaseballNo one has shouted yet.
