Cardinals call up RHP Lucas
Aug 19, 2017 - 4:34 PM The St. Louis Cardinals called up right-handed reliever Josh Lucas from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.The team also optioned right-hander Mike Mayers to Memphis following Friday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Lucas, 26, will be making his major league debut when he appears in his first game with the Cardinals. He is 8-1 with a 3.34 ERA in 43 appearances at Memphis, converting 14 of 17 saves. He ranks fourth in the Pacific Coast League in saves, while striking out 65 batters in 56 1/3 innings.
Mayers, 26, was recalled prior to Friday night's game against the Pirates and pitched two-thirds of an inning in the Cardinals' 11-10 victory at PNC Park. He faced seven batters and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits and a walk.
