MLB Note - New York Yankees Sabathia, CC
Aug 20, 2017 - 8:20 AM LHP CC Sabathia came off the disabled list to pitch against the Red Sox for the third time this season Saturday. And, after contemplating retirement after injuring his right knee in Toronto Aug. 8, he outpitched Chris Sale. He worked six innings, yielding two runs on four hits while throwing 80 pitches. He had thrown 18 straight scoreless innings this season against Boston before the Red Sox scored twice in the fifth - after Sabathia had notched his third strikeout, which allowed him to pass Mickey Lolich and become the American League's all-time K leader among lefties. He is 7-0 with a 1.46 ERA in eight starts after Yankee losses this season. "I know that he was pretty emotional that night because he thought he was heading for surgery," said New York manager Joe Girardi. "We said, 'Let's just see.' If you would have listened to the tone in his voice, you probably wouldn't have guessed that (he'd be back)."No one has shouted yet.
