MLB Note - Boston Red Sox Holt, Brock

Aug 22, 2017 - 6:55 AM OF Brock Holt made his first start of the season at first base, in place of 1B Mitch Moreland, who was a late scratch with a sore neck. In the bottom of the ninth of a tie game, with a runner at second, Holt fielded an attempt at a sacrifice bunt by C Roberto Perez. Holt raced in, fielded it, hesitated, and then threw wildly to third base in an attempt to get OF Brandon Guyer, the runner going from second to third. The ball rolled into foul territory, and Guyer raced home with the winning run. "It was a routine play. I just couldn't get it out of the glove, fumbled it a little bit, and then tried to rush the throw and made a bad one," said Holt, who has 14 career starts at first base, but didn't want to blame the error on his lack of experience at the position. "I haven't played first in a while," he said, "but it was a pretty routine play: catch the ball, throw it over there, I think we would have had him. I just didn't get it done."
