MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Rizzo, Anthony

Aug 24, 2017 - 8:03 AM 1B Anthony Rizzo spoke more Wednesday about his historic appearance at third base in the ninth inning on Tuesday night. "I was not prepared at all," Rizzo said. "Maybe taken ground balls there once this year, just to mess around." He became only the third left-handed position player to play third base for the Cubs, the first since George Decker in 1895, when he moved from first to third in the ninth inning of a 13-9 win at Cincinnati. Rizzo did not have to field a ball. Cubs manager Joe Maddon gave an emphatic "no" to a question Tuesday night about Rizzo pitching in a game. "I think it would have to be the perfect storm," Rizzo said. "It would have to be a playoff game, we're out of pitchers and I'm the absolute last resort in the 27th inning." He went 1-for-4 with a double on Wednesday.
