MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Engel, Adam
Sep 17, 2017 - 9:22 AM CF Adam Engel was not in manager Rick Renteria's starting lineup Saturday as he reworks his swing in an effort to improve a .184 batting average. "We were trying to give him a day (off)," Renteria said. "You might see him out for five or six innings, then we'll have to put him back in there again." That's what happened as Engel was inserted after the top of the seventh for defense. "He's a tremendously gifted defender for us," Renteria said. "We're still working with him, trying to develop an approach that will continue to serve him well. He's a kid who wants to go out there and do well. Like most players when they're in the big leagues, it's tough for them to want to make adjustments because they're worried about the outcome. At some point, you got to say, 'OK, we need to make some adjustments.'" Engel did get a bloop single to right center in his only trip to the plate. No one has shouted yet.
