MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Cervelli, Francisco
Sep 19, 2017 - 8:11 AM C Francisco Cervelli will not play again this season. He sustained a left quadriceps injury in late August. With the Pirates out of the running for a playoff berth (14 games behind the second National League wild-card team through Sunday's games), it did not make sense to rush him back. As a result, the Pirates are shutting him down. "The reality is we've run out of time," manager Clint Hurdle said.Cervelli, 31, ends his season with a .249 average, five home runs and 31 RBIs in 81 games and 304 plate appearances. He is under contract through 2019 and will earn $10.5 million next season.
