Athletics C Maxwell arrested after alleged gun incident

Oct 30, 2017 - 2:52 AM Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell, the only Major League Baseball player to kneel during the national anthem this season to protest racial injustice, was arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at a female food delivery worker in Scottsdale, Ariz.

According to Scottsdale police, officers went to Maxwell's home Saturday night after getting a call about a person with a gun. The woman told police that Maxwell pointed the gun at her.

Maxwell, 26, was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct. He was being held in custody awaiting an initial court appearance, Scottsdale police said.

"We were disappointed to learn of the allegations," the A's said in a statement Sunday. "We take this situation and ongoing investigation seriously. We are gathering information from the proper authorities and do not have further comment at this time."

Maxwell hit .237 with three home runs and 22 RBIs in 76 games this season. He made his major league debut with the A's in 2016.
