Rangers LHP Hamels donates mansion to charity
Dec 19, 2017 - 4:44 PM Texas Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels and his wife, Heidi, have embraced the generous mood of the holidays. The couple announced that it is donating a mansion located in southwest Missouri -- which is worth $9,418,400, according to Realtor.com, -- and the accompanying 100 acres of land to a charity that provides camps for children with special needs and chronic illnesses.
The donation of the 10-bedroom, 32,000-square foot home was to Camp Barnabas.
"There are tons of amazing charities in southwest Missouri. Out of all of these, Barnabas really pulled on our heartstrings," Cole Hamels said in a release, via the Hamels Foundation website.
"Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it. Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way."
The mansion is located in Branson, Mo., and offers views of Table Rock Lake. It resides approximately 85 miles away from where Heidi Hamels grew up in Buffalo.
An attorney for the Hamels told the Springfield News-Leader that they initially wanted the mansion to be their dream home. The left-hander, however, was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Rangers, and the couple elected to move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a result.
Hamels, 33, has one season remaining on his six-year deal worth $144 million. The four-time All-Star posted an 11-6 mark with a 4.20 ERA in 24 starts for the Rangers last season.
