Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Friday, April 15 (2022)

Apr 15, 2022 - 2:21 PM

It has been an exciting start to the MLB season. Runs have been coming in at a minimum, and mental mistakes on the base paths and in the field continue to take over the game. I think we can ultimately blame the lockout and the lack of time for preparing for the season. But either way, it was affecting some of my bets recently. Hopefully, all of the mental errors start to get erased as the season progresses.

Anyway, I’ve got three plays for today’s slate. Let’s review them below!

New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles First Five Team Total (2.5, -120)

In recent years, if you’ve been paying attention to the MLB, you’d know that the AL East teams love to gang up on the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles are the one team in the division that is usually an easy series win. The Yankees have so much success against the Orioles year-to-year because of the talent differential.

Tonight, the Yankees will take on Jordan Lyles and the Baltimore Orioles. I’m ready to bet against the Orioles every chance, and this seems like a great spot.

The Yankees, when combining last year’s stats with this year’s stats, have a .178 ISO and wOBA of .321 against righties. New York also walks 11.7% of the time and hits ground balls just 41.7%.

Meanwhile, Jordan Lyles has a 5.08 xFIP between the two seasons and has struck out just 19% of batters. He gives up a ton of hard contact and has struggled against lefties and righties with a high wOBA of at least .338 on both sides and a high ISO of at least .200.

The Yankees need to find their offense after a slow week against the Blue Jays. The offense is going to come back tonight.

Bet: New York Yankees Over 2.5 F5 Team Total (-120 at DraftKings)

San Francisco Giants vs. Cleveland Guardians Moneyline (-150)

Despite the Giants being on the road in this matchup, I still like the Giants to get the win over the Cleveland Guardians tonight. Zach Plesac is on the mound for the Guardians, and he’s had a 5.07 xFIP dating back to last season, along with just 16.7% strikeouts.

That means that the Giants should be able to put many balls in play, and against righties, the projected lineup has a .229 ISO and wOBA of .355 with 10.9% walks. Plesac gives up power to righties with a .215 ISO, and guys like Darin Ruf, Wilmer Flores, and Joey Bart have plenty of power potential in this one.

Meanwhile, Carlos Rodon will get his second start for the Giants after a terrific debut where he struck out 12 batters in five innings against the Marlins. Cleveland’s not that great of an offense, so don’t get it twisted. Things will settle down over there.

Bet: Giants ML (-150 at DraftKings)

Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals Total (8, -115)

The Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals have started the season slow on the offensive side of things. With the Tigers sending out Tarik Skubal and the Royals pitching Brad Keller, there’s reason to believe that both offenses will continue to struggle into tonight’s game.

Skubal and Keller have shown some signs of improvement. Skubal can get high strikeouts and limit walks, while Keller is very capable of earning 50% ground balls while limiting power.

Therefore, I’ll fade these two lineups and take the under in this game at 8. A low-scoring game is in the cards for this one.

Bet: Under 8 (-115 at DraftKings)
